Masks required for St. Landry Parish Schools students and staff upon return from break

ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KADN) - St. Landry Parish schools will require all students and staff to mask up when they return from the winter break.

This applies to all SLPSS facilities and on the school bus.

According to Superintendent Patrick Jenkins, he and the board will discuss and potentially act on updates related to the CDC's new isolation and quarantine period recommendations. They'll also discuss SLPSS mask opt out guidance.

That meeting is January 6th.

“I believe that wearing a face covering is one of several preventive tools ( get vaccinated and boosted, get testing before travel, gatherings and upon return and social distancing to the maximize extent possible) to best mitigate the rapid spread of the omicron variant in our communities," Jenkins said. "I also believe that the best place to educate our children is school, face to face.

"Lastly, on behalf of the board, I want to encourage our community members, staff and students to sign up for COVID testing and test prior to attending school in January 2022, if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID 19.”
