College Vaccinations

LAFAYETTE, La. - Governor John Bel Edwards is moving forward with adding Covid-19 vaccines to the required list of k-through-12 school shots. This is coming just after a vote to revoke the regulation was overturned.

A part of the Governor's Covid-19 vaccine requirements now includes colleges like the one right here in Acadiana. I'm here at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette asking students what do they think about this new requirment?

"It scares me but if everyone does their part we should be good," said Albalusxsi.

The vaccinated student says he understands the hesistancy to get vaccinated but believes that it's the best way to reach heard immunity.

"We're in a public health emergency, a pandemic, caused by a highly contagious virus that results in a disease that causes severe illness and death," said Governor Edwards.

In an effort to fight Covid-19 Governor John Bel Edwards is requiring that all University students get vaccinated against the Coronavirus. If they refuse they must submit an exemption.

"Vaccination will help, they should require it, everyone should do their part, I'm already vaccinated. You are doing it to protect yourself and to protect others so I think it's a good step," said Albalusxsi.

Edwards says because kids immune systems are so vulnerable they actually play a big part in covid's transmission rates.

"Ultimatley we're all going to be much better off and this pandemic will be over when enough people are vaccinated and boosted. that's the way through," said Governor Edwards.

Governor Edwards says his main focus is those aged 16 and up because that's the age range The Food and Drug Administration has granted approval for though he hopes to soon have approval for those who are younger.

Governor Edwards ended his remarks by asking all Louisianians to commit to one extra new years resolution, to get vaccinated.
